Madeleine Johnson has been based in Milan, Italy for over two decades.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, she has also lived in New York, Paris and Rome.
With degrees in art history from Wellesley College and the University of California, Berkeley, Johnson began writing on art and Italy for The Journal of Art and Connoisseur soon after arriving in Rome in the 1980s.
Since then, she has written steadily on cultural matters, real estate and travel as well as Italian life, politics and food for Prospect Magazine, The New York Post and the Financial Times.
Johnson has a monthly column that covers a wide range of topics including Italian society and current events and culture for The American Magazine/In Italia (www.theamericanmag.com).
Particular areas of expertise and interest include confiscation of Mafia property, new anti-organized crime strategies, inter-cultural life and education.
